Rory Bevin from Oakham, Leicestershire, aged just 21, took the vote for January Howdens Jockey of the Month Award, the second this season.
Rory was nominated by Gillon Crow, Tik Saunders and Darren Edwards from the PPORA Committee, after riding a Double at Friars Haugh on 22nd January, beating last seasons number of winners already this season!
Rory is currently studying Agriculture at Newcastle University, and his Mother, ‘The Boss’ (his own words) trains the Pointer from Home in Oakham. During their pre-training, Rory was home every weekend, now the season is in full flow he comes home when he can, and travels wherever needed for his rides. Starting to pick up a good few spares, and on a tally of 8 winners in total he has started the season very strong, so hopes to have a successful second season.
He says ‘I feel very honoured to follow on winning this award after Darren Edwards last month, big shoes to fill! I am very much looking forward to the season ahead now’ Other nominations put forward for January Jockey of the Month were Joe Wright & Sam Jukes. Nominations can be submitted by anybody, so if you think you have seen a deserving Jockey and would like to put them forward please email Abi Stock – secretary@ppora.co.uk Rory will be presented with a Harley Racing Voucher.
