The final Midlands Area Point-to-Point meeting of the season is the rearranged Woodland Pytchley fixture at Dingley on Saturday, 9th June. There are seven races on the card, beginning at 4pm.

At the time of writing the course is being gently watered. We have ample supplies of water and with little or no rain in the forecast we will continue to add water as necessary throughout the week with a view to achieving good ground for Saturday's meeting. As usual there will be a large number of trade stands, caterers, bookmakers, tote and a bar on site. The gates open at 2pm so bring your friends and a picnic and come and enjoy a great day out with us.

The first race of the day is the Fernie and Woodland Pytchley Members race, which has four horses entered. Of these Done A Runner is no stranger to this course and has the best rating, while Pytchley Huntsman Daniel Cherriman would be a popular winner on KnowWhenToFoldEm. The Bevins bring High Hopper, who previously had a career under rules and won at Edgcote on 3rd June.

The maiden race which follows is for younger 4-6-year-old horses and is raced over the shorter distance of 2 and a half miles. There is little form to work from in these races but the entry list features some familiar trainer/jockey combinations. The mares in this line up get a 7lb allowance which will suit Sweet Lady Jane. Philip Rowley has The Sting and Milzipa in this race, with Alex Edwards in the plate, though the latter may run in the last instead. Mr Snuffles was second on their last run here and will want to go one better this time.

There are 23 entries for the 2m 4f Ladies Open, seven of which are rated at 100 or better. Can Mestret will be well fancied here, with seconds in two hunter chases recently and Gina Andrews in the plate.  This shorter distance may suit Johnny Weatherby's Extreme Appeal who is looking for a return to form on quick ground. Fair Exchange was second in the English Lakes Ice Cream Hunter Chase at Cartmel recently. Alan Hill-trained For 'n' Against has the best recent form, winning twice in May, the most recent victory on quicker ground. Jimmy The Jetplane has two good second placed finishes recently while carrying more weight, though he and other recent winners will be carrying 7lb more than other horses in this race. Golden Crisp also won last time and carries 4lb penalty. Sam Cavallaro recently bear Mantou and Extreme Appeal in the Brian Babbage hunter chase at Cheltenham. Derksen was slightly disappointing at Garthorpe last Saturday after three previous wins at lower levels. Moscow Me won at Garthorpe on Saturday but this is a step up in class. Lots to choose from here.

The Mens Open which follows also has entries Fair Exchange and Jimmy The Jetplane, carrying 12st 5lb in this one. Others to consider include Green Winter, second to Proximo at Garthorpe last weekend; Just Cause, second most recently in a hunter chase at Fontwell Park, and Namako, with two wins and a second in the last three. The best recent form probably belongs to Ramble On, who has won their last three starts with slightly lower weights. Beyond these there are lots of similarly rated horses with decent form to choose from so declarations on the day will be key to determining the final starting line up.

The PPORA Club Members Race for Novice Rider series is next on the card. Just Cause is entered in this one as well as the Mens Open, and is clearly the best horse on the basis of rating. Others already mentioned include Golden Crisp, Extreme Appeal and Derksen among others with multiple entries. Ballybough Gorta won the equivalent race at Higham in April and hasn't run since. Mont Choisy has decent form in Open company so must be considered. Rendezvous Peak won here at the Fitzwilliam meeting at the end of May. Tempelpirate won twice in May but lost out to prolific Bayley's Dream when they last met.

As usual the Restricted race includes horses which have won recently and others for whom it have been a while. Thatcher's Brook is perhaps the best horse here on paper, while Bob's Call, Brereton, Burn Baby Byrne, Desert Retreat, Free Scorpion, Gowell, High Hopper, Staple Head, Swiss Heights and Whiskey Moon have all won recently and might be considered.

The final race of the day will be the three-mile version of the Open Maiden, for horses yet to win a race. Chosen Tribe might have a good chance here, as well as Milzipa and Tigers Eye.
