The final point-to-point of the Midlands Area season took place at Dingley racecourse, just outside Market Harborough in Leicestershire, on Saturday 13th May and produced doubles for jockey Jack Andrews and trainer Tom Ellis. Dale Peters trains and rides Thunderstruck, who made it two wins from the last three outings as he won the first […]
Fitzwilliam at Dingley 28th May - Preview
2.00 Conditions Race (Level 2) - 9 entries - Sponsored by PolyCo Healthline
A competitive looking conditions race with several of the entries having previous course form. Aunty Joan is a 5 time course winner and seems to be as always thriving at this time of the season, should have leading claims. Bawnmore, ultra-consistent, should run his race but could possibly find one or two too good. Captain MC, unexposed, won really well last time at Bratton Down, could be anything. Fiddler of Dooney ran a good race in a Fakenham Novice Hunter Chase behind Normofthenorth should there of there abouts if choosing Dingley over Stratford. For Rita, entered in 3 races on the card, would be competitive if turning out in this race. Hadmeathello is another previous course winner, had another consistent season running a blinder in an Exeter Hunter Chase before walking over in an Intermediate at Holnicote. The very likeable veteran Kashmir Peak carries a 3 pound penalty but has been holding his form so could run another big race. My Uncas, two time course winner this season on both starts since leaving Ireland, won well both times, this race will tell us how good he is. Sum It Up, 3 time winner this season before slightly disappointing at Charm Park, could bounce back here.
Top Pick: Hadmeathello. Second Choice: My Uncas.
2.35 PPORA Conditions Race 8 year old and over (Level 2) - 5 entries - Sponsored by Stacks Property Search
Lowest entries of the day. Direct Flight, last time winner of the Restricted race at Godstone, has two ways of running and his own ideas on racing but clearly has ability on his day. Island Master, veteran horse who was giving his novice rider a good ride last before the saddle slipped, hopefully they have more luck this time. Neumond, not as good as he once was but showed a glimmer of light last time at Edgecote to come third. Poncherello, Maiden and Restricted winner this season before being slightly outclassed last time, should find this easier. Present Ranger, ex Dan Skelton inmate one time talented handicap chaser, not as good as once was but runner up on last two starts, could have found the right race to get its head in front.
Top Pick: Present Ranger. Second Choice: Neumond.
3.10 Mens Open - 11 entries - Sponsored by Saffrey Champness
Chase Me, certainly has two ways of running but is talented when fancying it. Early Retirement won the Fernie Gold Cup on his previous start, just as good back at three miles, leading chance. For Rita & Kashmir Peak have alternative entries and easier looking options on the card. Kilbrew Boy, ex handicapper from under rules but ran a nice first race pointing when second in Mixed Open at Edgecote, possibly better over shorter trips. Mr Love, reopposing Early Retirement, was probably slight disappointing last time but if back to his best has a leading chance. Pillowman, runner up at Garthorpe last week, might find this tough enough six days later. Pont Aven, very high class Hunter Chaser/Pointer, has 2 entries at Stratford but if turning up here would be the one to beat. Spencer Moon, very likeable 14 year old who seems to be as good as ever winning all his starts this season, very versatile with wins from 2mile 4 upto 4 miles, could be a thorn in the side of any of the leading contenders. Summer Sounds, one time very good Novice Riders horse, finds Opens a bit too taxing these days, has been a stalwart for the Poste yard. Tidal Flow was a good handicap chasers, not the force of old and looks to have his own ideas.
Top Pick: Pont Aven. Second Choice: Early Retirement.
3.45 Ladies Open - 9 entries - Sponsored by The Sharp Family
Dry Ol’party, hasn't won since 2019, likely to find a couple too good again. Dundrum Wood is a very good open horse, five runs this season and not been out of the first two this looks an ideal chance to get his head in front again. No Hassle Hoff, not been out the places the last five runs, when he's been beaten its been by good open horses, should give Dundrum Wood a good run for his money. Spencer Moon looks more likely to run in the Mens Open but would have a good chance in this. Stay Out Of Court, likely to be outclassed by a couple of these. Taaffes Castle, only a maiden winner, this is likely to be too competitive for him
Top Pick: Dundrum Wood. Second Choice: No Hassle Hoff.
4.20 3 Mile Maiden - 9 entries - Sponsored by Will and Georgie Spencer
Aracaras, entered in both maidens, looks be better over three miles so this could be the favoured option, only beaten a length last time and looks to have found a good opportunity. Classic Ruler, one time Garthorpe flat race winner, looked to have a bright future but jumping seems to let him down. Ghostship ran a nice racecourse debut last time in what looked like a decent end of season maiden staying on nicely when the penny dropped. Great Vizier, third season maiden, hard to see that changing here. Lennox Again, another third season maiden with some decent place form, disappointing last time, needs to bounce back. Ontherunagain, first season maiden, two runs in Point to Point flat races and two fair runs in maidens before a first fence unseat last time. Polly Sans, first season pointer, has shown snippets of form but need to improve to take this. Stopbeatingyourgums, racecourse debut might be best having a look in the paddock and letting the market guide chances. Taita Hills, Workforce four year old who ran a nice debut when beaten 25 lengths at Charm Park, could show a leading hand if improving for the experience.
Top Pick: Aracaras. Second Choice: Taita Hills.
4.55 2 and Half Mile Maiden - 11 entries - Sponsored by CR Peggs
Anablaze, second season maiden, only piece of form to note when fourth at Kingston Blount did not improve on that when pulling up next time at Garthorpe. Aracaras looks to have better chance in the previous race but not without hope over this lesser trip. Crews Pitch, second season maiden, won a flat race at Revesby Park and ran a respectable in the Aintree Point to Point bumper but disappointing over fences so far. Escoltador, second season maiden, shown little so far. Felino De Bersy, second season maiden, has run in some competitive races, good second last time at Mollington behind a smart prospect, this looks easier. Lets Getaway, first season maiden, hadnt show much until promising third last time when staying on nicely. Taita Sunrise, first season maiden was running a nice race here last time before running off the track, third since, drop back in trip might suit. Wontbefurlong, racecourse debut, promising young riders first runner as trainer, mare won over fences and hurdles, use paddock and market to guide
Top Pick: Felino De Bersy. Second Choice: Taita Sunrise

A dry week in the lead up to the Quorn’s point-to-point on Saturday 22nd April produced some excellent racing on soft/good to soft ground at Leicestershire’s home of racing, Garthorpe racecourse.
